How to Turn Off Comments on Instagram Ads (2026)
Instagram ads come in two kinds. A boosted post is a post from your profile that you pay to show to more people, and Instagram lets you turn commenting off on any post on your profile. An ad built in Ads Manager isn't on your grid, and for most advertisers its comments can't be switched off: Meta's comment control is still a limited test. What works on both is hiding comments and filtering words on the profile.

Can you turn off comments on Instagram ads?
On a post on your profile, including one you boost, yes. On ads built in Ads Manager, mostly no: hide comments and filter words instead.
Turn off commenting on a post, including one you boost
Works on any post on your profile. Meta doesn't say whether it also covers the paid impressions of a boosted post.
- 1
Open the post's menu
Go to the post on your profile and tap the three dots (…) above it.
- 2
Turn off commenting
Tap Turn off commenting. Existing comments are hidden while it's off.
- 3
Turn it back on later
Tap … > Turn on commenting to bring them back. For a new post, you can switch comments off before sharing, under Advanced settings.
Hide comments on an ad built in Ads Manager
For ads that aren't on your grid. Instagram comments can be hidden or reported here, not answered.
- 1
Open the ad
In Ads Manager, go to the Ads tab and click Edit below the ad's name.
- 2
Open its Instagram comments
Click … next to the ad's name, then More options > Manage Instagram comments. This needs an Instagram profile connected as the ad's identity.
- 3
Hide or report
On each comment, open … > Hide comment or Report comment.
Filter words on every ad from your profile
Hidden words are set on the profile and extend to ads from that profile.
- 1
Add your own hidden words
Profile > Menu > How others can interact with you > Hidden words. Under Custom words and phrases, add words, phrases, numbers or emojis separated by commas.
- 2
Tighten the general filter
Under How others can interact with you > Comments > Types of comments, set Hide unwanted comments to Some or More.
- 3
Check what was caught
Matching comments are hidden, including ones already posted. Turning a filter off brings them back.
What can't Instagram do on its own?
For most advertisers there is no switch that turns an Ads Manager ad's comments off; Meta's control for it is still a limited test.
- In Ads Manager you can only hide or report Instagram comments, not reply to them or like them.
- If the ad runs under your Facebook Page identity only, its Instagram comments can't be managed there at all.
- Hidden comments still count toward the comment total, and word filters only catch what you listed.
How do you keep Instagram ad comments clean without turning them off?
Let RYPL read every comment on your Instagram ads: spam is hidden and questions get a public answer.
- Spam, scam links and abuse on your Instagram ads and posts are hidden as they arrive, on every plan.
- Buyers' questions get a reply under the ad from your knowledge base, which Ads Manager can't do for Instagram comments.
- Direct messages that follow are answered by the same agent, in the commenter's language.
- It runs through Meta's official Instagram API. Nothing scrapes your account.
