How to Turn Off Comments on Facebook Ads (2026)
Meta's own help says that for most advertisers, anyone who can see a Facebook ad can comment on it. A control that switches ad comments off was announced in October 2024 and is still limited to some businesses. What every Page can do is control what shows up: hide comments one by one, filter words and profanity, and let Moderation Assist hide spam automatically, including on ads.

Can you turn off comments on Facebook ads?
For most advertisers, no: Meta's comment-off control is still a limited test. You can hide, filter and moderate ad comments instead.
Manage one ad's comments in Ads Manager
Reply to, like, hide or report the comments on a single ad.
- 1
Open the ad
In Ads Manager, go to the Ads tab and click Edit below the ad's name.
- 2
Open its comments
Click the three dots (…) next to the ad's name in the left column, then More options > Manage Facebook comments.
- 3
Reply or hide
Like or reply to a comment, or open … > Hide comment or Report comment. The same tools are in your Notifications.
Filter words and profanity on every ad from your Page
Filters set on the Page also apply to ads the Page publishes.
- 1
Open the Page's settings
Switch into your Page, then go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Followers and public content.
- 2
Turn on the profanity filter
Toggle Hide posts and comments with profanity. Meta says the filter extends to any ads published by your Page.
- 3
Add your blocked words
Under Hide comments containing certain words from your Page, add words, phrases or emojis separated by commas, or upload a .CSV. Up to 1,000 keywords; common misspellings and variations are caught without counting toward the limit.
Hide spam automatically with Moderation Assist
Rules that hide comments by who wrote them or what they contain, on your Page and the ads you run.
- 1
Open Moderation Assist
In the Page's Professional dashboard, go to Engagement > Tools > Moderation Assist and click Add.
- 2
Pick the criteria
Author criteria include no profile picture, no friends or followers, an account under a week old, or several recently removed comments. Comment criteria include links, images, videos, your own keywords and profanity.
- 3
Save it
Matching comments are hidden from then on. Moderation Assist doesn't go back over comments that were already there.
What can't Facebook do on its own?
For most advertisers there is no switch that turns an ad's comments off; Meta's control for it has been a limited test since October 2024.
- On organic posts, Who can comment on your post? has no No one option. The narrowest choice is Profiles and Pages you mention.
- Filters and Moderation Assist only hide what matches. A buyer's question under the ad still waits for a person.
- A hidden comment stays visible to the person who wrote it and their friends.
- For Instagram placements, Ads Manager only lets you hide or report a comment, not reply to it.
If you can't turn comments off, what then?
Keep them on and handle them: RYPL hides the spam on your ads as it arrives and answers the buyers.
- Every new comment on your Facebook ads and posts is read as it arrives. Spam, scams and abuse are hidden, on every plan.
- Questions about price, delivery or sizing get an answer from your knowledge base, in the commenter's language.
- Banned words and author blocking on every plan; moderation rules in plain words, with hide, delete, reply or review first, from Pro.
- It works through Meta's official Graph API as a Meta Tech Provider. Nothing scrapes your Page.
